6am Ponderings

I'm not a morning person. Once I started dating Ibis, I went from sleeping until 10-11am on the weekends to getting up by 8am. 7am is the earliest I wake up naturally and I can function pretty normally at that point.

Then we got a dog.

Yes, all you parents and pet owners are laughing at me right now, but it's 6am and I my coffee isn't ready yet so I'm too groggy to hear you. Ha!

The good thing is I've been writing in these early hours. I'm not as motivated as some of you to get up at 4am, but being at my computer before the sun rises is a huge accomplishment for me. Granted, it's 6am, I have the fan pointed at me, and I'm still coated in a slick of sweat, but it is cooler than during the day.

Speaking of writing, yesterday I reached 69K words (I left off at 62,750 last December) and I have four pages left to edit. My goal was to finish this draft before I leave for the US on Wednesday, but I have at least 4-5 chapters to write and I honestly don't see that happening. I plan to print out the last chapter -- or maybe my outline -- so I can write by hand while I'm gone.

That's all I've got this morning. What's new with you?

Far out. That is freaking early. I'm a night person and morning's are dead to me usually except for the inconvenient fact of having to go to work.

It's nearly 10pm Monday here. I've done lots of writing, and planning and even some reading. Oh and posted the most awesome photo all year, of me with Fantasy writer, China Mieville. [/brag]

I was up at 5:45 to watch my cousin's baby but she called at 6:00 and said they don't need her until 2:00 so because I too have a hard, hard, really hard time getting up early, and I was already up, I decided to stay up and get some stuff done. So, I've been uploaded photos all morning and reading blogs. I should have taken the opportunity to write but it's just not coming to me today...not liking the direction I'm going with it and not sure how to fix it.

Ok, enough rambling. Gonna make the hubby some breakfast :).

You're doing awesome with that word count! Congrats.

I'm trying to readjust to early school mornings, so I'm right there with ya. :) I didn't get to sleep late (or have any naps) at all this weekend, so I'm kinda sore about that. :(

Ben, I saw that picture! Very cool. :)

I was always a night person and NEVER went to bed before midnight my entire adult life until Ibis.

Jenna, I think you and I are very similar that way. :) That's too bad they aren't coming after you got up early, but good you're making the most of it.

I'm feeling the same thing about my wip right now. I've been happy with it until now, and I think maybe I need to cut a chapter or something, I'm not sure.

Thanks Janna! I kept telling myself I'd take a nap yesterday afternoon and never did, but I was asleep by 10:30, so I guess it works out.

I'm feeling guilty that Ibis will have to handle Owen on his own for two weeks. Right now we've been trading off every two mornings.

Bwaaa haaa haaa!

Sorry. I couldn't help it. I used to sleep in till noon, one or even two. Then I stopped going out to party every night and realized that, dang, I'm actually a morning person. Nowadays, I'm almost always up early ... you know, early birds and worms and all that.

Congratulations on the word count. Good luck!

Keep up the good work! *shakes pompoms* Perhaps you can get some more writing done in flight.

I miss the mornings I had before children, but they are worth it. (Even the fuzzy ones!)

I always went to bed around midnight or 1am before I met my hubby. Now after 9 years of being with him, I've adapted to his schedule and we go to bed at around 8.

Congrats on your wordcount! That is awesome!

I have never been a morning person.

After my Jeep accident I stopped being a night owl.

So would that make me a non-person?
As I am not a morning person and no longer a night owl.
I just sleep all the time, go to bed early(although not as early as Nadine) and wake up really late(sometimes on the weekend I can sleep 12-18 hours).

Maybe I am making up time that I lost when I had dogs.........

Lurker, I do appreciate all that I can get done when I get up early. I remember when Ibis first started waking me up at the crack of dawn & I was so amazed at how much you could fit into a day!

JLC, I hope I can get something done on the flight. My creative juices feel pretty tapped, so we'll see...

Nadine, EIGHT? What time do you get up? Wow! That's early. :)

Penguin, I don't know what to tell you... :P

LOL - I know, we're like an old married couple. I get up sometime in the 6 o'clock hour. Anywhere from 6am to 6:45, depending on when I wake up.

That's a lot of sleep. :) I suppose without TV it'd be a lot easier. I don't watch it during the day but once it's dark out I flip it on.

I so love to sleep. Years ago I was bemoaning the fact that I couldn't find time to write, and Adam suggested I get up at 5am, before the kids got up, and get a couple of hours in. Right. When he woke up in the hospital, he wasn't a bit surprised.

Robin, lol!! Even when I get up early I manage to screw around for at least an hour before I start anything productive.
