Seven + One

Janna and Jen have both done this meme that's going around the blogosphere. There's a picture and some rules, but I don't feel like bothering with all that. I'm supposed to list seven things that you may not know about me, but I've altered that and listed seven things that are on my mind this week, that you also probably don't know about me.

If you'd like to play along, please leave your seven things in the comments, or let me know if you post on your own blog.

1. We haven't had a phone in four days. I'm not sure if it's the line or the phone, but that shows you how often we actually use it.

[Since writing this Ibis fixed the line. But then the power went out because we didn't pay the bill that never arrived.]

2. I've lost 2.5 of the 5 kilos I'd like to lose. I'm not liking how my body behaves now that I'm in my mid-30s -- it's hard to maintain and even harder to lose -- but what are you gonna do?

3. I think I have carpal tunnel syndrome in my left wrist. I sometimes wear an athletic wristband to elevate my wrist (so it's higher in relation to the mouse) but I worry I'll eventually need surgery. And now my pinkie on that hand hurts as well.

4. I'm no longer planning to buy sheets when I go home. Ibis completely shredded our top sheet a couple nights ago (there was a shout of frustration, then a big RIIIIIP, then much huffing and puffing as he tossed it aside) so I put a twin-sized sheet on our bed for the time being. Turns out it's exactly as wide as our bed, and since I only cover a leg at most, that should work fine.

5. I'm jealous over how excited Owen gets when Ibis comes home, but I'm thinking that I might need to actually leave the house if I want Owen to be excited to see me. He is happy when I come home from the gym, but it's not the same. On the flip side, I'm worried he won't remember be after I'm gone for two weeks!

6. Speaking of Owen, Ibis has joked that he's only going to feed him a little bit so that Owen stays small. Yes, it's a joke. But we also keep joking that we want to eat him in a taco. So. Fricking. Cute. *dies*

7. *sits back up* Here's one that is a general thing about me, nothing isolated to this week: I often start washing my dishes while I'm still chewing my last bite. If I don't force myself to stay in my chair and savor the last bite, I'm up and in the kitchen before I realize it. Needless to say, we rarely have dishes in the sink.

+1 This is a Friends reference. There's an episode where Phoebe and Rachel take a self-defense class and declare they can kick anyone's butt (or something like that). Ross makes it his mission to prove them wrong, then they in turn try to scare him (you know how these shows go) but he says because he studied karaté, he has "unagi" (said while pointing at one's temple) and sees everything.

They ridicule his word unagi, and throughout the episode everyone asks "isn't that eel?" By the end of the show, the girls scare him and Rachel points to her temple and says "salmon sushi roll." Good times.

Ibis happened to watch this episode with me, so now every time he does something that surprises me, he points to his temple and says "sudoku."

Now tell me whatcha got!

FUN! I haven't seen that Friends episode. Hmph.

I'm excited for you about your trip!

Oh! LOL! About the sheet and the Friends episode!

No surgery! This is my area of expertise. Remind me when we're together, and I'll show you a few things. Seriously! If people can "type" on a piano (which is MUCH harder and MUCH more physical) for ten hours a day for YEARS, typing on a keyboard is a piece of cake. I'll try to do another post on keeping the wrists healthy, too.

I hear you about the new 30s body. My knees creak, my hips(!) get tight, and other random weirdness. I used to be able to drop weight whenever I wanted... now I'm finding it's a bit more of a struggle!

And I'm a huge yoga pusher. It's cleared up so many of my aches and cricks and knots. In my Bikram class they specifically mention carpal tunnel. (Plus you could probably just do it in your apartment since it's supposed to be like 105 degrees in the room.)

ROFL!!!

I can relate to the body thingy. Ugh! What ever happened to the 20s when we could eat whatever, gain whatever, and not notice any effect. Now I have to do regular tune-ups. Bleh! (Rachel - Yay Yoga!)

Sorry your wrist hurts!

The jealous thing applies to kids too. I'm home all day with them, and daddy gets the cheers, but I'd rather see them more then go to work everyday like he does.

I'm looking forward to your trip back home. The intertube will be too quiet, but I know you will be having a wonderful time.

Janna, maybe I can find a clip. So funny.

Natasha, my wrists don't hurt from typing, it's from all the mouseing. I use that much more with design. If it were all typing I wouldn't have a problem because it doesn't bother me then.

Rachel, my hips pop all the time!

I was just thinking about Bikram yoga this morning while I was on the exercise bike. It's SO hot in the area of the gym where the bikes are, and I was debating bringing in a thermometer so I can check the actual temp.

I'm curious about the techniques for carpal tunnel.

JLC, that would drive me crazy, having the kids be so excited to see daddy and not me (you). He was excited this morning because Ibis was walking him when I got up, but I don't feel like it's the same.

I can fix that too. :-) Easy-peasy!

Awesome.

btw, Rachel & Natasha, you're going to meet each other! And my cousin Jenna!

"Unagi." I love it. Friends is such a great show.

I hear ya about your thirties. I'm *cough* thirty +2, and it seems my body has fallen apart! I'll post my seven things on my blog. Sounds like fun :)

I so hope you won't need surgery! I also hate dirty dishes, too bad my hubby doesn't mind them... ugh.

I LOVE that Friends episode!!

Sorry about your wrist - can you buy a brace?

Re: Owen getting excited. Our cat is always around me and wanting attention from me and my hubby gets jealous. But the only reason the cat is always around is because I'm the one that feeds him.

I cracked up at the Sudoko comment!!

The Friends quote I always say is "Pivot. Pivot. Pivot."

Love all of them! I showed Adam your picture of Owen, and he admitted that he is freaking adorable. Adam never says fuzzy stuff like that.

The 30's body thing reminds me of a story from med school. I was 22 and my roommate and best friend was 26. I would run about 7 miles a day, and she would shake her head sadly and say, "Sure. That's OK for you to do now, but wait till you're 26. Your body just falls apart."

Haha- feeling the need to watch me some Friends now!

Erica, it's a constant battle with the dishes. I pretty much do all of them, but every now & then one slips by and I have to let it soak for hours.

LOVE Friends.

Nadine, I have a brace somewhere -- I should pull it out. Of course now that'll give Owen one more thing to latch onto, lol.

Aww for your kitty. Ibis has been feeding Owen first thing in the morning so he says that's why Owen loves him.

Robin, I hit a wall at 23, then not really again until 29-30. Now I'm REALLY falling apart and I worry about my 40s. I was not kind to my body when I was younger.

Colby, I'm so glad it's on two times in a row!

I might not be as skinny as I was in my 20's, but I think I am feeling the most fulfilled and all-around happy in my 30s.

Happy Journey!
