Apostille

An official piece of
Paper that binds Ibis and I together,
Otherwise known as a marriage certificate, has been
Sent to my parents, who will ship it
To Springfield, where a man in an
Ill-fitting suit will stamp it, declaring it
Legal per the Hague Convention, then send the
Letter back to me, so I can return to Immigration for the
Endless cycle that has become my visa application.

This was my favorite form of poetry in high school and I thought it very appropriate here. Here's a definition. Yes, it's very confusing to me, too.

Thoughts?

Very creative! I likes it. And I hope all goes well.

...round and round, round and round...

I've had that stupid song in my head since yesterday, lol.

I've been through the whole immigration thing. Lots of fun.

This is a neat way of writing. Sanks.

Sorry, I don't know that song. I guess another thing in my failed childhood. Then again it is probably better as it is not stuck in my head.

So is this good news?
Or is this a statement about how you yet again have to jump through hoops to get nowhere?

My word..quessesk, interesting.

Hi Lynnette! Welcome. :)

Yes, this is loads of fun.

Penguin, the second one.

And don't say I never gave you anything:

My word verification on another blog this morning was meeout. I'll take that!

I LOVE the poem! Especially the ill-fitting suit part!

Although, I do have that song stuck in my head now. :)

Nadine, I was cracking up when I wrote this yesterday. I could've used Illinois for the I but that's far too obvious. :P

Very cool poem, very trying process! I hate hoop jumping! Hope things clear up soon!

Well -written poem. A nice technique, I will try.

I know how immigration paperwork can be tedious. I was there.

Have a happy day!

Melanie Hooyenga said...

Thanks Turkey. I thought this was a more interesting way to keep you all up to date.

Melanie Hooyenga said...

Thanks Shey. You should try it, it's fun! I used to write poems based on entire sentences, but no one needs to see those, lol.

Yes, this whole process is tiring. My mom shared my poem with a lawyer helping us out and he agreed that there are lots of men in ill-fitting suits in Springfield.

Really?! Sheesh! How long is that going to take? It won't push back May, will it?

They're calling it a "war" down there. Why can't they at least give you guys... um, you know... what's that called? Safe harbor or something? Geeze!

Melanie Hooyenga said...

Spy, my immigration stuff and his are two completely different things. Hopefully this should only take a week or so...

A war? Really? It seems okay here but I know it's crazy near the border.

Ah, geez, a new earworm! :D

I liked it, too, Mel. I think I remember discussing this form with you awhile back...fun to see one!

Melanie Hooyenga said...

Jen, I don't know why this form amuses me so much. It's my favorite, along with haiku and limerick.

Spy Scribbler said...

Oh! Right. I completely glossed over that bit, LOL!

Yeah. Anderson Cooper said so, with big flashing letter running across the scene while I was at Bally's, LOL. "War on the Border" or some such thing.

WendyCinNYC said...

I'd like that apostille a lot more if it ended with you coming back to the States!

Melanie Hooyenga said...

Spy, well if Anderson says it... lol. Nah, I like him, I just wish we could catch his live program. I never remember what time it's on.

Melanie Hooyenga said...

Wendy, this process is actually to keep me IN Mexico. Ah well.

That poem is adorable! I love it!

This visa stuff is just so ridiculous, I can't stand it. The next thing to do is we all go to that senator's house and poop on her lawn. (Due to my new diet, my poops will be nice and fluffy.)

Love the poem!! Also can't get song out of my head now!

Jody's comment "it wouldn't be so hard if you had some money!" A little mordida goes a long way!!

Good luck!

colbymarshall said...

AGH...I'm just so ready for you guys to be able to get home!

Melanie Hooyenga said...

Robin, this is exactly why I hadn't tried to get my work permit. One requirement was having my college diploma apostilled and it was just too much of a hassle.

Melanie Hooyenga said...

Colby, me too. What's amusing is that by me applying for this visa, it means I can stay longer...

Nadine said...

Can you get your college diploma apostilled at the same time so you can work?

Melanie Hooyenga said...

You would think... unfortunately you have to have a document apostilled (is that even a word?) in the state where it was issued. In this case, Virginia. Also, my diploma is currently at the bottom of a storage unit, in a glass frame, in Michigan.

*sigh*
