Like a Piña Colada, But Not
One thing that surprised me when I moved to Mexico is the popularity of drinkable yogurt. Sure, I'd had a couple over the years but they didn't really do it for me. Why not just drink milk, or eat yogurt?
I'm amazed at the grocery stores here -- nearly half the refrigerated section is devoted to these yogurt drinks, all different flavors and brands. Some have granola blended it, some are soy, but unfortunately, none seem to be low-fat.
I stuck with a berry-blend flavor for a long time, but often bought a variety for Ibis. When I stumbled upon the coconut-pineapple one in the picture, he raved and told me to get more. Easy enough, except that seemed to be the first one to sell out. Hmm... maybe I should give it a chance.
Sweet mother of all that is delicious and packaged in a plastic bottle! It's like a piña colada, except thicker and without the alcohol. It's so delicious, you can pretend you're in Mexico just steps from the beach... oh wait.
But really!
Do they have this flavor back home? If they do, you should really try it.

ROFL! Great post.
I'm not into the drinkable yogurt, either, though I do buy it occasionally. I have to admit, that's not a flavor I'd dive for.
Janna, that's exactly what I thought, until I finally tried it. I think it was the only one and I really needed some calcium (I've yet to buy the supplements). I couldn't believe how quickly it transported me to the beach!
OK . . . so . . . I recently shared with a friend that my life is so stressed out of late that I only DRINK my food (i.e., drinkable yogurt). I am too rushed to sit down and eat a real meal, but I want something healthy . . . so drinkable yogurt it is. However . . . we do NOT have that flavor here, alas!

Sounds great. I'd LOVE to try it!
I usually ask for a virgin pina colada when I eat out.
Erica, I drink them a lot for lunch (with a sandwich) but they are PERFECT for when you don't have time to eat. I've yet to try the ones with cereal & granola though - I'm not sure I'd like chunky granola. *gags*
Hmmmm I'll have to check our grocery store.
Pink, Ibis LOVES piña coladas so I'm not surprised this is his favorite flavor. :)
Christy, I don't know why I was so against them before...
Sounds delicious! I've had a lot of the yogurt drinks but haven't seen that flavor before!!
I think I would pass on the ones with granola. It sounds like you would have to chew your drink.
I would drink that -- it's not available here at all. Silly Americans!
Nadine, that's my concern...
Amy, I'm surprised it's not available there, especially since Americans seem to love "exotic" things. :)
*Adds rum to hers* Ahh... now thats more like it!
Don't think that hasn't crossed my mind... do you think it would curdle?
Hilarious! They don't even sell that brand around here, let alone the flavor. I am gaga over anything with coconut so that sounds beyond awesome!
I love drinkable yogurt, but they make them in weird, itty bitty, baby packages. I suck them down like shooters. That one looks like the perfect size!
I'm with Robin: they're in tiny containers, here. In the past couple years, they've practically taken over the yogurt section. It's at least half, here in Ohio. I love them, but they give me asthma attacks, LOL. I LOVE the flavor of pina colada, as long as it doesn't have little bits of coconut floating around.
Robin, they sell little bitty ones here too. They're called "Chaymitos", which more or less means little kids. Those are totally like shots!
Spy, lol, no bits of anything floating around. Just smooth, creamy goodness.
We have a regular pina colada yogurt that I get a lot, but this sounds waaay better. I don't want the granola one, though. Chewing my drink brings up unsavory images of what I might be chewing.
Amy, it's just sweet enough that it feels like a treat, which is even better in my book. :)
I have had a pineapple coconut one in Europe. They have SOOO many flavors over there and the texture is different from drinkable yogurt here. It's smooth and rich and less sweet. I really like it. I haven't seen that flavor here, but Finn is crazy about the pomegranate one. He highly recommends it ;-)
Sara, I wish we had more berry flavors, including pomegranate. The majority is strawberry, which I don't really care for, and there's a mixed berry that we get a lot. Otherwise it's all mango, peach, and that type of thing.
They do have a nice texture here. :)
