A Powerful Force

Yesterday Ibis and my sister were talking over coffee when I woke up and they kept exclaiming that whatever they were talking about would suddenly appear on the TV. Nothing crazy, just random things, like Steve Fossett and ponzi schemes.

This morning I woke up with the bed shaking. I ran from the room and they were both at the front door, Ibis quickly unlocking the gate, then we all ran down the four flights of stairs. We don't normally leave when there's an earthquake, but Ibis said this was the strongest one he felt in a while and since my sister had never experienced one, we thought it was better to be safe.

We waited about five minutes. The building didn't collapse so we headed back up the stairs, and that's when they realized they were watching Destroyed in Seconds on the Discovery Channel. We all looked at each other for a moment and my sister suggested we talk about something positive. We settled on winning the lottery, and I'll let you know how it goes.

She and my mom leave today at 3pm we teased that we wanted to make sure she got the full Mexican experience. :)

AC, I'll have to check that out. Once I bring them to the airport I plan to catch up on all my blogs.

Jenna, that's a fabulous idea!

I'm so evil...I just laughed and laughed at this post, Mel. :D

Glad everyone's okay, though. Hope you enjoyed your visit, earthquake or no.

I'm always intrigued by odd coincidences like this.

That is too funny. If the lottery thing works, I might have to hire you guys to do some talking.

Aren't earthquakes fun? The first time I was in a small one, I thought I was getting woozy, until I saw the water sloshing in the toilet bowl.

Never been in a really big one, but a couple big enough to start getting scary.

LOL, what timing! I hope they have a safe trip home! :-)

Jen, why are you laughing at me? :P

Travis, all morning we talked about other times that's happened to my sister. I think I need to start sending her money to buy tickets.

Melanie Hooyenga said...

Janet, this wasn't the biggest one I felt, I think it was just freaky since my sister isn't used to them.

Melanie Hooyenga said...

Spy, the line at the airport was RIDICULOUS so I hope they get home safely too!

Sounds like had quite the trip! Whales and quakes included!

Ugh, earthquakes. I am so happy to have left those behind in CA, particularly after the Northridge one. Glad all is okay.

Oh yeah, I have some bling for you on my blog today.

That is a great story, although I certainly don't want any of you guys "shaken not stirred" by an earthquake. Jenna is so smart! You can have them talk about all sorts of things, or have people pay to hire your sister and Ibis to talk about their subject of choice.

Nadine, I was glad she got the full experience. :)

Nadine, both my parents were in a big one in CA - I think the Norridge one - so they weren't too excited to be in this one. Fortunately they were only one floor up and didn't feel quite as much shaking.

I'll check out your blog today!

Robin, nice comparison. :P And I like the idea of supplying them a list!

I was in Zihuatanejo the morning of the earthquake - sleeping in, apparently. It was an hour or so later that people started asking me whether I had felt anything. Uh,no. I think the quake probably woke me up, but I didn't think anything of it. When you live in a 24 foot motor home, all it takes is for your husband to roll over in his sleep, and you've got yourself an earthquake. ;>)

Hi Sandra! My parents were one floor up and DID feel it, but I wondered. So many times Ibis doesn't believe me when we have a tremor during the day because he doesn't feel them on the ground floor. We're on the fourth floor and I feel everything!

LOL @ your hubby. :)
