My Apologies

I would like to take this moment to apologize to any family and friends - and anyone else that may be lurking - who live in the Midwest. This morning I woke up and felt a little chilly. So much so that I turned the fan so it was only pointing at my feet, which were sticking out from beneath the sheet. My bare feet, sans blankets.

I've been running around all morning in a tank top, underwear, and flip flops, closing the blinds against the bright sun. To be fair, it has been cloudy for the past day and a half, so it's not quite as bright as normal, but it still creates a wicked glare on my monitor. In fact, my clothes didn't fully dry on the line yesterday because the sun wasn't as strong.

Last night my dad and I walked along the beach to meet Ibis at work, then we had dinner in an outdoor garden, surrounded by trees and flowers (and two stray kittens, weird). Our biggest complaint was the bits of plant matter that dotted the table and that it was a little more muggy than normal (which I didn't notice).

My beach plans have been postponed until tomorrow, but by then the clouds should pass and the sun will be back in its full glory.

So to all of you, my friends and family currently freezing your tooshes off in sub-zero temperatures: I'm sorry.

Oh, man! And you have no idea how cold I am, shivering above this little space heater! It turns off every few minutes, and I shiver until it turns back on again. Drives me nuts.

It's time to work in the warm, hot bathtub again. I get chilled to the bone!

Janna, was the hook worth it? lol.

Spy, have you considered an electric blanket? Ibis couldn't live without ours in Chicago. Then you can sit on it and/or wrap it around you - much better than a space heater IMO.

*scowls at Melanie and sips her hot chocolate*

You.
Are.
EVIL.

Just sayin'.

Not evil, just warm. :) And a little sweaty.

ok, that's just cruel. I have cuddle-duds on today.

Oh, man! I echo Spy's "Oh, man!" I'm cold, sick as a snotty little evil imp, sipping cinnamon tea, and covered in blankets and dogs. I would give my right pinkie toe to be sitting on your porch right now.

Yeah, sure you are sorry. Don't trip in those flip flops or anything on your way to the beach.

Melanie Hooyenga said...

Robin, everyone's welcome! Come on down! First in line gets to stay free in our guest room. :)

Such a shame about the slightly-damp clothing! Meanwhile my Welcome mat has frozen into stiff, crunchy, rock-hard square (at least I assume it has; it's currently buried under at least a foot of snow). My husband and I warmed up by shoveling our driveway yesterday - which took hours - and IT'S ALREADY SNOWING AGAIN!

But do try to stay warm down there!

Melanie Hooyenga said...

Wendy, it's funny you say that because I HAVE been tripping a lot in my flip flops lately. I've almost ripped out the little thing between my toes - not good!

Melanie Hooyenga said...

Rachel, I'm sorry! I'm sure the welcome mat is still in there someplace.

That reminds me of a huge blizzard we had in Virginia. My boyfriend at the time and I went outside at 2am to start shoveling the two feet of snow (college, what can I say) and by morning there was another two feet!

Melanie Hooyenga said...

Laurie, forgive me, but what exactly are cuddle-duds? I know I've heard it before... long underwear?

Funny, I was reading this and was feeling sorry for you. No need to apologize that you have crappy weather down there.

I like that we got more snow last night.
I shoveled snow off the roof of my cousins cabin on Sunday(got pictures). That was three feet.
It is good to have snow for a change.

Melanie Hooyenga said...

Nah, don't feel sorry for me! I like it like this - I don't like sweating constantly.

Can you send me those pictures?

Sorry Mel. I took a 30 minute hot shower last night. :p

Melanie Hooyenga said...

Did I forget to mention that we have hot water now?

:P

Running around in flipflops. You poor thing!

Melanie Hooyenga said...

Yes, it's really is a rough life. Today I have to decide if I'll wear flip flops or tennis shoes for the long walk to the beach.

On the other hand, I'm looking at your headlines of narcos attacking the national broadcaster and being very, very thankful I don't live in Mexico.

I sure hope your town is not too infested

Melanie Hooyenga said...

Janet, you can't really get away from it anywhere in Mexico. We're very careful and keep our heads down and so far we've been okay. *knock on wood*

Janet said...

All in all, I prefer the cold. I know it's going to go away.

Melanie Hooyenga said...

I feel the same way.

Yes! Long underwear. An extra layer to keep you warm. Found at Macy's...and, ironically, introduced to me by Cindy Halcomb!

Laurie, that's fricking hilarious!
