Habitat for Travis

On January 4th, my fellow blogger and friend Travis Erwin, suffered a terrible tragedy. His home burned to the ground and he and his family lost everything. While his family is safe, they are now homeless.

Travis is a wonderful writer whose stories have touched me in the months since I've met him. Check out his blog for the latest on what they're going through.

A site has been set up to help them rebuild. Anything you can contribute will help.

It's so awful. I told my husband about it last night, and he doesn't know Travis at all, but was really upset at the story. The habitat for Travis website is so nice. It makes me feel good about people that his friends are doing this.

I still need to read his entire post today, but I keep thinking that I hope his writing was backed up someplace other than his home computer.

So sad...

I heard about that. What a tragedy, but I'm glad his family is safe.

As a volunteer firefighter for the last 35 years and an Assistant Chief for the last 15 of those 35, this is something I've seen way too many times. The hardest part is the the loss of things that can't be replaced such as family portraits and sentimental keepsakes that belonged to loved ones who have gone on to a better place. Houses and furniture can be replaced but these things can't. On his blog he states that the Red Cross responded immediately which is great. They are a quality organization that most people don't realize responds and helps out in these kind of situations. They're not just for hurricanes and tornados. My thoughts and prayers are with Travis and his family during these tough times.

Pink, if you've never visited his blog, his series about when his first child was born is worth reading.

Nadine, I know. I can't stop thinking about it, especially his boys and their Disney shirts.
