The Final Push

Do you hear that grinding sound?

Listen closer.

Yeah, that.

That's my brain.

I got the rest my beta comments back yesterday and I have some work ahead of me. Nothing too terrible, but it will require more thinking on my part. I know, I know, thinking is kind of a major part of writing...

My instinct is to whine about the extra work but I'm too excited to finish this thing, so while I'd really rather not spend the rest of this week reworking my wip yet again, I will.

Now why is the song We Shall Overcome in my head?

I think a little whining is allowed. ;)

I read a comment by a writer (Cant remember who) about the final editing process. He/she said that by the time they had finished, they HATED the sight of their WIP. Even if you are crawling across the finish line, you are still crossing it!

Jen, I've heard that from a lot of writers. I don't know if I'd say I hate my story, but I'm definitely sick of looking at it.

Oh, that's exciting! Whine all you want. I'd let your ideas simmer for a bit before getting back into editing.

Wendy, a lot of the edits are clarification-type things. For example, I switched my MC from drinking a beer to a coke, but missed it in a couple spots, so I need to fix that. Those are the things I'm going through now.

Fixing the telling... that'll take a little more time but I've already changed a couple spots so I'm feeling more confident.

Good luck, Melanie! :-) I know the feeling. I seem to be having trouble finishing anything. Geeze. It's driving me nuts. I'm getting work done, but I'm not finishing!

I'm proud of you Mel! Whine all you want.

Let's look at the bright side. You're persevering like a champion. Your book is just getting better and better. You're well on your way to fame and fortune! (You can go get one of those pretty carved mangoes tomorrow as an award.)

Spy, I do feel like I'm getting somewhere, so at least I'm not too frustrated.

Thanks Erica!
