NaNo and the Election

Day One! Woo-hoo! Have you started writing yet? Can I use these words towards my daily count?

[ETA: I posted this on Nov 1st but wrote the draft yesterday. I don't know how to make the date reflect that. Hmm.]

[EATA: Thanks Janna!]

I stumbled across Paperback Writer yesterday and want to share this post. It's called "Twenty Bits of Advice from a Pro for the New NaNo'er" and has a lot of good suggestions.

Next, I seem to be wasting all my valuable outlining time to find things on the intrawebs, because I've also found these:

Yes We Carve - Pumpkins go political. The majority are pro-Obama but there are a couple with both candidates, and there's nothing negative.

I love this video, If You Become VP. It's the best "response" video I've seen, set to a tune that I like. There is a bit of swearing so check for little ears or grown-up bosses.

And their follow-up:

Good luck to all the writers and be sure to vote on Tuesday!

I'm so excited to do my first word count update!

Good luck to you, too! So far I've changed my desktop wallpaper (to a Nano one) and opened my document.

Well, baby steps, ya' know.

Ooh, they have wallpaper? I didn't think to change but that's a good idea, especially since my current one is geared towards my other wip.

I almost didn't log on this morning in case all my writing buddies had huge numbers already, but only one had started, phew!

Yeah for voting!!!

Yep, I got started last night at about 1:00am. No huge number yet, though. Besides the fact that I learned my lesson last year, lol, I still don't really know what I'm writing, so I'm taking my time. So long as I get my 1,667 every day, I'll be a happy camper.

Good luck!

Turkey, I'm so excited for Tuesday I can't stand it. :)

Jen, I debated trying to start writing at midnight, then I went to bed at 9:30. I don't know what's wrong with me! But I was up at 6:30 and finished my daily goal by 9:30, so I guess there's an upside to it.

I can't seem to buddy anyone, so you're not listed in my buddies. It just takes me back to the front page instead of adding you. :-(

There's a ton of wallpapers in this thread. Everything is a bit slow loading today, though.

Congratulations on finishing already! Yay, you!

Good luck with Nano! And I'm the world's worst pumpkin carver. I doubt I could carve discernable words, much less faces!

Those links are awesome! I got up at 8a and thought that was early! I did my daily duty, so life is good, and now I'm going to go out to dinner and stuff my face! (I made my MC taller and thinner than me so I could live vicariously through her.)

Congratulations on a successful NaNo Day! Good luck to all! (How weird. Your blogger word verification today is "foodi". Do you think that's a sign?)

In your edit screen, after you've written your post, click on "post options" [blue letters, lower left]. It'll bring up a small window where you can choose what day and time to publish your post. :)

Spy, I started looking through the wallpaper but decided I don't want a giant calendar staring at me. The countdown on the homepage is enough to make me lose it. I'll look again to see if there are any that just have the nano stuff.

Rachel, I've only carved a couple in my life. I don't know how they get the "shading." I would've busted right through the side!

Melanie Hooyenga said...

Robin, so far I've only described two characters, even though we've talked to six. Is that bad?

Have fun tonight and eat extra for me. Too funny about the foodi - I've had some odd ones come up for me too.

Thanks Janna. I fixed it. :)

Can I include my comments on your blog in the NaNo word count? If so, 36 more!

Election coverage starts midnight in my time zone. I plan on staying up all night and cheering the landslide.

Melanie Hooyenga said...

Go Stephen! I plan to write this afternoon when it's nice and hot out. Maybe that's not the best plan...

I cannot WAIT to watch the coverage.

I laughed so hard watching these videos! My favorite is, "I'm so fing cared of you." HAHA!

The line I can't get out of my head is "just because I can see the moon doesn't make me an astronaut, you loon."

Best of luck with your NaNo word count. You can do it!

Dropping by to cheer you on for NaNo. You're gonna do a fine job!
