Please note the piece of bread on the middle shelf.
The other day I told Ibis that something in the fridge smelled bad. I keep it pretty clean so the odds of anything rotting in the back are slim to none, but something was clearly unhappy.
"Can you find what's causing the smell?" I asked.
"I'll take a look."
Famous last words. I didn't pay attention to whether he actually investigated the odor, but later in the day I saw this lonely piece of bread. My initial reaction was frustration. Why didn't he put the bread back in the bag when he decided not to eat it? But then I wondered, Did he leave it out on purpose?
I've heard that various food items absorb odors, often when you really rather they didn't, so maybe he was just being clever. As much as I enjoy giving him credit when it's deserved, I can't decide if this is one of those situations.
So what do you think? Genius, or lazy?
ps - For those of you who've heard me speak of it, the big dark object in the upper left corner is our 4L jug of wine.

I *think* bread absorbs odors, so I vote genius. Baking soda probably does a better job.
Can I reserve my vote until after you've asked him? ;)
Now what fun would that be? The odor is almost gone so I think he might be smarter than I realize.
Bread soaked in white vinegar and placed inside a smelly compartment, e.g. a fridge or old trunk, does, or is supposed to eliminate smells (we found this old household remedy when my mom tried to destink an old steamer trunk...and it did destink it a ton).
My vote would definitely be genius if he soaked that lonely ol' piece of bread in white vinegar.
If not I have to vote for pretty damn smart :).
If we vote, you'll remember to tell us what he says, right?
I'll vote for genius. :-)
I have a feeling he did it on purpose, I'm just shocked he knows these sorts of things. There's no way he knows about the vinegar though.
I'll try to remember to ask him about it. :)
When you are finished with it... could I have the bread for a snack?
It's a little crunchy...
