On Wednesday, gunmen wielding AK-47 rifles opened fire and hurled grenades at a patrol car in Pacific resort town of Zihuatanejo, killing four officers.
The car caught fire, and the bodies of the officers were found burned inside, the Guerrero state Public Safety office said in a statement.
An hour later, gunmen shot at a police station near the Zihuatanejo airport, but nobody was hurt. It was unclear if the same assailants were behind both attacks.
For those of you who've been to Zihua, I believe "the police station near the airport" is the one when you just leave town on your way to the airport.

Ugh! Mel, I just read both of your posts. How long will it take before the druggies stop retaliating? Its amazing they can get anyone to be an officer. :( Hope things improve down there!!
I actually heard this on NPR news this morning. They said they expect the violence in Mexico to get worse before it gets better.
Turkey, I'm often amazed at the same thing. I was just reading how the chief of police in Juarez resigned because the cartels said they would kill one police officer every 48 hours if he didn't. How do you govern that way?

Ok, that's just funny.
Yeah, I'm worried. I'm also pissed off at some of the expats down here who act like everyone's overreacting and insist that nothing has changed.
CNN (Anderson Cooper) has a special tonight and the tagline is something about it not being the same Mexico it used to be. But a bunch of drunks living on dollars down here know better. Right.
And here I thought deNile was in Egypt. It is easier to say that there is no issue than it is to try and change it. Mexico needs our help. Maybe our citizens should stop buying illegal drugs and supporting this violence.

There are some insightful comments from people who are living in the middle of this. I don't know how they'll fix this, but the governments need to figure something out.
(He Robin) You and Ibis need to get the hell outa Dodge!!! Go up there to the Imigration Office and kick some butts and get them to expedite the visa before one of you gets hurt, or worse!!!!
