My First ARC!

I haven't talked about this on my blog, but my Aunt Karen has her debut novel coming out this October and yesterday I received an Advance Reading Copy. Exciting!

It's called Freezing Point and here's the back copy blurb:
One man's dream of providing clean drinking water for millions, tapped from the polar ice, sparks scientific, business, and environmental conflicts. But no one can foresee the true danger hidden deep within the ice – an enemy more deadly than any could imagine, and an apocalyptic horror mankind may not survive.

Several well-known authors have given great quotes, but the best is David Morrell's, which is printed just above the title:

Do you see it? It says she's the new Michael Crichton. Wowza!

She sent me a copy so I can help out with her promotions. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to say what it is, but I'll put up a link as soon as it's ready.

In the meantime, check out her link for the book.

Holy cow, that's too cool! Sounds like a thought-provoking book with plenty creepiness to spare. I wish her much success!

You'll have to keep us posted.

I will!

She signed my copy so of course the first thing Ibis said is, "We can sell that on eBay!"

That's great! Congrats to her.

That is so cool. It's always cool to have someone else in the family who writes that you can talk shop with, but when their name is on a book too. Awesome!

Yeah, she's been doing this a bit longer than me and is very busy (she's also a co-founder of backspace.org) but she did give me the encouragement to write my memoir.

My husband will love this book! I'm ordering it today.
Thanks.

Hey, Melanie! Aren't you nice to brag up my book! And thanks to the rest of you for the congrats! The novel releases on October 2, and I couldn't be more excited.

I'll let you know when it's time to talk up the secret promo plan (and thanks for your help, Malanie!). Meanwhile, tell Ibis that whatever he gets for the book on eBay, I claim half!

LOL! I'll be sure to tell him. :D

Hehe -

(excuse the typo! "Melanie," "Melanie," "Melanie" - there - I think I've got it!)

Oh gosh - and excuse the anonymity! Can you tell I'm not used to commenting?

Melanie Hooyenga said...

It's ok. I wish I knew how to edit comments so I could've fixed it for you. I know you know how it's spelled. ; I assume being up to your ears in edits has that effect.

Well, at least I'm not partial, since I also misspelled my own name. :)

(Just doesn't pay to type in a hurry, does it?)

I put something fun on the book's Amazon page - a video clip of my writing/critique partner, Jeff Anderson, talking about the science in my novel. He's a doctor and a scientist in real life, besides being a twice-published author (we actually have the same editor), and the clip he made for me is really cool.

Can't wait to see what YOU send me! Thanks again!

Oh, I remember my first ARC! I treasured it! Still do. Co-founder of backspace.org? Now that IS busy. Do you belong? I can never quite figure that site out.

Melanie Hooyenga said...

I do belong but I don't go there very often. Shame, shame, I know. It's a very helpful site with a lot of good information.

Melanie that is totally cool. This is a huge inspiring point for anyone who wants to write! Looks really good.
