21 Hours Later

Ibis has torn apart the kitchen and is killing everything that moves. I found several nests *shudders* in various drawers and cupboards, so he's got his work cut out for him.

I've declared that I am finished dealing with these things, but we'll see how long that lasts. If one jumps out in front of me, I'm obviously not going to let it have the run of the house. Oh, and I need to clarify something from yesterday's post: the biggun I flung off the deck was closer to three inches long, not two.

At the moment, all the drawers and shelves have been removed, and the contents of the kitchen are in the living room. I hear banging, but every time I go in there he tells me he'll call if he needs something. As long as I don't hear a death scream, I suppose I'll let him be.

Thanks for all your well-wishes. I am feeling better today.

ETA: I'm in clean-up mode and had to share something. Before Ibis left I drilled him to make sure he really did look everywhere for bugs. (I found an ant nest since he left.) Our kitchen rug is in a bucket of water, so I asked if there were any cockroaches in it.

"Yeah, but he should be dead."

Should be? Ack. As soon as the water comes back fully (oh yeah, water ran out when I started to clean) I'll tackle the bucket. Joy.

THREE INCHES?! I take back whatever I said about living in Mexico being cool. :-)

AND his head moved independently from his body. I thought their backs were one solid piece, but noooooooo.

Cripes!

Did I say that already?

Yes, but that's ok. :D

Ibis put bleach in the kitchen cleaner spray thing without telling me, so now my shorts are polka dotted.

Do you have any pets? We used to have a mouse problem (YUCK!) until we brought Truman the French Bulldog into the house. They must smell him, because I think he's too dumb to chase them, but I haven't seen any in a long while.

We're thinking about getting a puppy when I return from my trip home in September.

Cockroaches make nests?! Why has no one ever told me this before? I recommend a cockroach eating snake as a pet.
We have these stupid stink bugs in the house that I've been complaining about. I'm going to give the next one I see a big sloppy kiss.

I just "removed" the nest from the silverware drawer, and let me just say, I hope none of you ever have to do that!

Mel, you're a stronger woman than I!!! I'd be a fetal ball of trembling mess if I had to deal with the bug monsters of the kind you're dealing with. I bow to the power that is you.!!!

Thanks. But you didn't see me when I gave up yesterday.

I am beginning to think I need to send you a care package filled with fabulous things like Raid, mousetraps, etc.

Ick, I've never found a nest, thank goodness. Hopefully they are all gone now and if they come back, your puppy in Sept can take care of them.

We haven't had any in our house for a little bit, but ours here fly and we used to hear them at night smacking into the walls. "blech" So gross!

Melanie Hooyenga said...

Nadine, that IS gross!

It's 2:30 and I'm almost done. EVERYTHING is clean now, thank god.

Colby, fortunately we have plenty of bug sprays here. Turns out I don't use them enough. :)

Don't you love it when men do things really manly like killing bugs? I love it.

i *think* my cockroaches are on their way out. that said, i will never again complain about my cockroaches (unless i find a nest). btw, what do cockroach nests look like?

Melanie Hooyenga said...

Felicia! Hey! *waves*

I'm glad your cockroaches are almost gone. I still keep thinking I see them every time I open a cupboard.

The nests are basically (deep breath so I don't puke) the babies all stuck together, kind of like a cocoon. The one in our silverware drawer was in the corner. You can see the individual babies - I guess it's the back forming - and they're maybe the size of my pinkie nail.
